SPIRIT AWARD RECIPIENT - 2016
Greenville, Texas – September 30, 2016
The 2016 Elaine T. Brown Spirit Award recipient is Carleton Dunn, Weatherford College Bookstore Manager. Carleton joined the Texas Book Company family in 2011 as the shipping and receiving clerk at Weatherford College. From the beginning Carleton exhibited a passion for knowledge and strong work-ethic, which earned him a promotion to textbook manager in 2013, and store manager in 2015. When asked about his favorite part of his job, Carleton explained, “It's a fun and challenging opportunity. Besides being able to support the education of so many students at the Weatherford and Wise County campuses, I also appreciate the opportunity to work with the members of the TBC family.”
Customer service excellence comes second nature to Carleton. You could say it is in his DNA. Carleton began his career in his family’s farmers market business, which his parents and brother continue to operate. In 2000 Carleton met Raquel Maya and eighteen months later they were married. Carleton and Raquel were equally committed and motivated to building their dream home in which they could raise their future family. They quickly purchased a few acres and a $2,000 mobile home to live in while they saved money. In 2004 their first child, Perla Mildred Dunn, was born, and Christian Leonardo Dunn, was born the following year. With two small children they soon needed more space, so in 2006 they finished building their new home on their property.
Carleton is a proud member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and regularly attends Catholic Mass with his family. He enjoys vegetable gardening, landscaping, carpentry, and masonry. Carleton is an amateur tennis player, playing two - three times a week. He loves to travel and hike the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. The Dunn family take frequent mini-trips around Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, swimming, hiking, and exploring. Lucky for family and friends, Carleton loves to cook, and he and Raquel love to entertain. This month, the Dunn’s will host a combined birthday party for Perla and Christian as they turn 12 and 11, and they expect 100 guests. When Carleton finds time to sit down, he enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys and Mexican League Soccer.
Congratulations to Carleton for his achievements at Texas Book Company. The Elaine T. Brown Spirit Award is given by TBC executive leadership in honor of Elaine T. Brown, a long-time valued TBC bookstore manager who always went above and beyond expectation, and who lost a brave battle with ALS. The award is given annually to a College Bookstore Division recipient who embodies the service excellence spirit to TBC customers and employee peers. Carleton was certainly deserving of this award as an individual who goes above and beyond to provide excellent service to all, and is willing to do any job asked of him.
